An Elizabethtown man was arrested Thursday and charged with squeezing and pulling a 3-year-old boy’s penis and testicles a day earlier.
In a recorded interview with Elizabethtown police, Jonathan Burks, 20, admitted to assaulting the child after the boy “refused to answer his questions correctly,” according to an arrest citation.
Burks is charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12 — a Class C felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison, if convicted.
The reported abuse happened around 7 a.m. Wednesday.
In the interview, according to the citation, Burks told police he pulled the boy’s penis and testicles five times. The boy had swelling, bruising and “abnormal deformities” to his private area, authorities reported.
Burks also reportedly admitted to striking the child with a belt that caused bruising on both of the child’s buttocks and his right thigh.
Burks is being held in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond in the Hardin County Detention Center.
Child Protective Services also was involved in the investigation according to EPD.
