A Meade County man was arrested Wednesday night after he drove to his home on Sandridge Road and told relatives that he had a killed a woman.
Denny Christopher Rumfelt, 29, is charged with murder — domestic violence, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse. An unidentified woman’s body was found inside a multi-colored sleeping bag in the front passenger seat and floorboard of a 1997 GMC Sierra pickup truck parked by the house.
He was arrested by the Meade County Sheriff’s Office and is being held in the Meade County Detention Center. The department was contacted around 2:40 p.m.
According to an arrest citation, the woman had duct tape around her mouth and over her eyes.
Rumfelt, who has a Vine Grove mailing address, walked out of the home after the body was located and surrendered to police, the citation stated. A family member called law enforcement after he was told what had happened, according to the arrest report.
Rumfelt had blood on his shirt, both ears and a “large amount of blood on the left sleeve at the end of his shirt as it was rolled up and cuffed above the elbow,” according to the citation.
Rumfelt also had duct tape his lower left forearm to secure a bandage, according to the citation. It was the same color as duct tape found on the victim, police said.
When the tape was removed, Rumfelt had a small cut that the document said required four stitches.
