A Radcliff man is being held on a $5,000 cash bond in the Hardin County Detention Center after reportedly choking a female relative unconscious Tuesday afternoon following an argument.
Galen Brooks, 50, is charged with first-degree strangulation – a Class C felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison, if convicted, and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault, domestic violence with minor injury.
According to an arrest citation, Brooks “became enraged” and grabbed the woman by the throat with his hands until she lost consciousness. The woman said Brooks choked her and she eventually passed out.
After she awoke, the assault continued, according to the citation and she received a scrape to her left forearm and scratches to the left side of her neck.
Brooks was arrested at 4:11 p.m. by Radcliff police, about an hour after the attack was reported.
He is scheduled to appear Jan. 15 for a preliminary hearing in Hardin District Court.
