Suspect reportedly admits to killing

A Vine Grove man who is accused of killing a woman allegedly stabbed and shot her, according to an arrest citation.

Tyler J. Petty, 18, was arrested Friday by Kentucky State Police only hours after police learned of the death of Cris Blehar, 65. Her body was found inside her home on Woodland Road in the Flaherty area.

According to an arrest citation written by Trooper Bryan Washer, Meade County sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence on a welfare check from someone concerned about Blehar.

Blehar, a U.S. Air Force veteran, was found dead in the house with an “apparent knife wound” and bullet wounds.

The citation said through an investigation, officers learned Petty also had been at the residence Wednesday.

“There was no relationship between the victim and the suspect. We believe he worked for her,” said Kentucky State Police Trooper Nicholas Hale in an email.

Petty was arrested and brought to KSP Post 4 and was interviewed about the case. Police say he admitted to killing Blehar.

Petty was read his Miranda rights and said he stabbed and shot Blehar with a long rifle. He said he covered up the body with clothing and then took the weapon with him, according to the citation.

Petty is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. He remains lodged in the Meade County Detention Center and is scheduled for a June 2 court date in Meade District Court.

Hale said the case still is under investigation.
