An Eastview teenager, arrested Wednesday on charges related to child pornography, is being held on a $10,000 cash bond in the Hardin County Detention Center.

John Coffey Jr., 19, was arrested in Fairdale by Kentucky State Police following an undercover investigation by the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch. KSP Sgt. Mitchel Hazelett said the reported criminal activity occurred while Coffey lived in Eastview and he recently had moved to a Fairdale residence.

Hazlett said it’s an ongoing investigation and additional charges are possible.

“It’s not a full forensic report,” Hazlett said. He said electronic devices were taken to be reviewed at the KSP forensic laboratory. He said additional charges could be added based on the examination.

According to an arrest citation, Coffey uploaded two images of child sexual exploitation and he had sent “nude photos of himself and also requested her send him nude photos of herself as well.”

According to the citation, Coffey reportedly admitted to asking for and possessing images and admitted to sending photos of himself to a juvenile female.

Coffey is charged with two counts of first offense possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor, a Class D felony punishable by one to five years in prison, if convicted; one count of prohibited use of electronic means to procure a minor, also a Class D felony; one count of promoting sexual act by a minor under 18, a Class B felony punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison, if convicted, and one count of first offense distribution of obscene matter to a minor, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison, if convicted.

According to a news release, Coffey was arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. The KSP Electronic Crime Branch began the investigation after reportedly discovering communications online with a juvenile to include the request and exchange of nude photographs, the release said.

Coffey is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Feb. 21 in Hardin District Court.
