Don't Miss the Bus collects school supplies for area students

The Don’t Miss the Bus school supply drive runs through July 22.

The Don’t Miss the Bus school supply drive is back.

The collection started June 1 and runs through July 22.

For several years, Bluegrass Cellular put on the drive that helped fulfill the need of school supplies in the area.

In 2020, Bluegrass Cellular was acquired by Verizon and Don’t Miss the Bus fell away.

This year, the Heart of Kentucky Association of Realtors, Quicksie 98.3 and 94.3 The Wolf decided to bring back the annual event.

“We decided, let’s bring this back, let’s see what we can do to try to fill that hole of getting school supplies together,” said Kevin Clark, president of the Heart of Kentucky Association of Realtors. “When that program went down, it was just a gaping hole. Hopefully, we can do a little bit to fill that back up this year.”

Clark said several brokerages and affiliates of the Heart of Kentucky Association of Realtors have set up boxes to collect supplies. School supply donations also can be dropped at the Heart of Kentucky Realtors office, 5375 N. Dixie Highway, Elizabethtown, or at the radio station office, 233 W. Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown.

He said donation drop-off locations are shared on the Heart of Kentucky Realtors Facebook page.

Examples of items donors can give include flash drives, ear buds, loose-leaf paper, spiral paper notebooks, backpacks, stick glue, colored pencils and crayons.

Clark said supplies collected go to area schools and will be distributed through the family resource centers.
