Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will host its annual Beacons of Light Celebration virtually at 7 p.m. Friday.
According to a news release, “Beacons of Light recognizes African American heroes in the college’s service region for their success, exemplary service to their professions and communities, and commitment to servant leadership and equity.”
This year’s honorees include Terrie Burgan, Ed Harris and Darian Parker and were selected by a special selection committee.
• Burgan, who serves as the health promotion manager and public information officer for the Lincoln Trail District Health Department, was nominated by Dr. Donielle Lovelle of Western Kentucky University.
• Harris serves as the coordinator of veterans affairs for ECTC and is a lifetime member of the NAACP.
• Parker, who is in her third year teaching in Elizabethtown Independent Schools, was nominated by Superintendent Kelli Bush.
This year’s ceremony also pays tribute to Tanya Seabrooks and Jimmy Curle, two past honorees who died in 2020.
“This event is very near and dear to my heart because not only does it showcase some of the best and brightest in our community, but it provides an example to future generations on how they can make a positive impact,” ECTC Director of Cultural Diversity Jerisia Lamons said. “By shining a light on these incredible community members, we hope to help pave the way for future generations.”
The virtual event will be streamed live on ECTC’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Sponsors for this year’s event include Owsley Family Chiropractic and Skyline Mission Church.
