Crossroads Baptist Church in Elizabethtown has plans to make a new home on St. John Road.
A part of those plans includes having city of Elizabethtown services. To do that, they requested the city annex the property at 1205 St. John Road.
Elizabethtown City Council had the first reading Monday of the ordinance.
According to the ordinance, the city will annex roughly 20 acres, which will be zoned as R2.
Currently, the church is leases the former Severns Valley Baptist Cnurch location at 401 West Poplar Street.
According to Councilman Virgil Willoughby, who is an elder at Crossroads Baptist Church, they’ll be meeting with contractors around the first of March to get a feel for the cost and what they’ll be looking at going forward.
“We’re just trying to make sure that we do our due diligence in using our resources the best we possibly can,” he said.
Willoughby said the church is looking forward to having their own building.
Willoughby recused himself from the first reading, which was held without objection.
