World AIDS Day, and the Kentucky Finding Cases Project — Region B is hosting a free showing of “Dallas Buyers Club” at Crowne Pointe Theatre in Elizabethtown.

World AIDS Day is Dec. 1.

Dallas Buyers Club is a 2013 film which tells the story of Ron Woodroof, an AIDS patient diagnosed in the 1980s.

Kentucky Finding Cases is a community outreach project with the goal of HIV and Hepatitis C case identification and prevention.

Shanee Whitlock, University of Kentucky health education coordinator senior for Region B, comprising Hardin, Breckinridge, Grayson, and Edmonson Counties, said next week’s event, set for 5:30 p.m., is just one of the several outreaches they host to educate and spread awareness.

The event will offer free giveaways and discounted concessions will be available during the movie. The movie is rated R. No one younger than 17 is permitted.

The event is free, but seating is limited. To reserve a ticket, residents can reach out via the Kentucky Finding Cases Project — Region B Facebook page or email Whitlock at shanee.whitlock@uky.edu by Monday.

Whitlock said World AIDS Day is “a day of remembrance.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World AIDS Day, is “an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV, and remember those who have died from an HIV-related illness.”

Started in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first-ever global health day.
