Knife collectors will have the chance to buy a piece of Kentucky history Saturday at Bourbon and Blades in Radcliff.
Fifty knives made with wood from the Boundary Oak tree, a white oak which was less than 150 yards from the cabin Abraham Lincoln was born in, will be sold for $499.95 each.
Josh Basham of Red Hill Cutlery said it’s something they’ve been working on for three years.
“Since we got up on this hill, we’ve been working on getting this deal done,” he said.
For $499.95, collectors will get one of the rarest Case Peanut knives to ever be produced. Basham said everyone that has worked on the pieces has recognized their importance.
“People that were working on it were taking pictures with it because it’s just such a historical piece,” he said.
The knives will come in a display case that tells the story of the Boundary Oak. According to the National Park Service, the tree grew to 6 feet in diameter, and 90 feet in height before its death in 1976. It was approximately 195 years old and remained the “last living link” to Abraham Lincoln, according to the National Park Service.
Basham said the knives go on sale when the doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday at 92 Bourbon Trace in Radcliff.
“I would say to get there pretty early for them,” he said.
Another exclusive knife, made with authentic Kentucky Bourbon Barrel wood handles, also is available Saturday for presale, although Basham doesn’t think it will be complete in time for the event. There will be 350 of these knives available, 100 of which will be serialized and numbered.
Bourbon and Blades kicks off at 10 a.m. this weekend. In addition to the attractions for knife collectors, musical performances by LeAnn Rimes, Elvie Shane, Layla Spring, Tony Jackson and Thompson Square can be enjoyed at the free event.
