The same day she received an appointment as the new district judge, D. Dee Shaw also turned her ankle when stepping on a dog toy.

What she thought was a sprain turned out to be a couple broken bones. Her swearing-in ceremony will be delayed from Monday to Wednesday while she’s fitted for a cast, she said.

Shaw, 60, was appointed Thursday by Gov. Andy Beshear to fill the judicial vacancy in Hardin District Court created earlier this year.

A long-time city attorney and Elizabethtown native, Shaw said she will take the oath at 8 a.m. Wednesday and immediately begin her new job on the bench.
