The Radcliff Small Business Alliance attracted dozens of local business people, politicians and nonprofit leaders to celebrate and raise money for two nonprofit projects in Hardin County.
The Community Alliance Gala was held Saturday night at the Phillips Grove venue in Radcliff. The event was created to support the opening of the Reaching Every Child Youth Center and for a new service kiosk in Radcliff for the Family Scholar House.
Altogether RSBA president Matt Smith said the event raised around $31,000 for these projects. He said that leftover money would go toward scholarships.
Individual tickets were $75 and a whole table was at the event cost $1,000. Attendees had drinks, dinner and were able to participate in an auction for various items. There also was music and dancing.
Near the beginning of the event, attendees were treated with a performance by comedian DD Rainbow.
After dinner was served, they then held the grog ceremony.
Smith said this ceremony comes from a military tradition, and is meant to be representational of a community coming together. Participants pour an item that is representative of their organization into a punch bowl.
For instance, Vine Grove Mayor Pam Ogden put in fake grass to symbolize the grass at Optimist Park. Hardin County Clerk Brian Smith put in bowtie pasta to represent the clerk’s office. Other items included chocolate milk, Oreo bits, sand and salt.
“It just shows the unity in our community,” said Smith, who drank the concoction.
Family Scholar House Regional Coordinator Lynette Kennedy attended the gala, and was glad to see support.
“I think it’s a really good event. It’s a way for the community to all come together and then hear about two fantastic nonprofits,” Kennedy said.
At the event, Smith said they already have reserved Phillips Grove for the same event and time next year.
“They want to make a difference in the community. They want to all come together,” Kennedy said.
