It may be a mystery as to why Wyatt Shaw slept for 11 days, but he’s home now and doing well.
“I watched a miracle happen before my very eyes,” Wyatt’s mother, Amy Thompson, said. “Every day he has been progressing leaps and bounds.”

Wyatt Shaw, Amy Thompson, Duke Shaw and Waylon Shaw attend the Rise & Shine for Wyatt fundraiser Thursday night at J’s Northside Hall in Radcliff. Wyatt was discharged Wednesday from the hospital.
It may be a mystery as to why Wyatt Shaw slept for 11 days, but he’s home now and doing well.
“I watched a miracle happen before my very eyes,” Wyatt’s mother, Amy Thompson, said. “Every day he has been progressing leaps and bounds.”
Wyatt, who awoke Oct. 12, had to spend an additional 13 days in the hospital recuperating before being able to make the trip home Wednesday. Thompson said Wednesday night, at Wyatt’s request, he and his siblings all slept in the same bed.
“That was fun,” she said.
Wyatt said he was glad to be home and he did not want to go through it all again.
Thompson said Wyatt, who still is a little wobbly on his feet, begins outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy sessions next week.
“He doesn’t have his full balance back, but everything else seems to be there. The want to run is there, he just can’t quite yet. He’s not stable enough,” she said.
Thompson is not sure how long Wyatt will have to attend therapy, but he will attend all three twice a week.
“He’s healing at a rapid rate,” she said. “The doctors said a miraculous rate for what they expected it to be.”
Also because of not being completely stable on his feet, Wyatt will be starting homebound school next week through Hardin County Schools. Thompson said he could be back to regular classes at Heartland Elementary School sometime after Thanksgiving.
Wyatt has gone through numerous tests, including spinal taps, MRIs, an MRA, EEGs and a toxin panel. He also was tested for parasites, viruses, bacteria and infectious diseases. They all came back negative.
“Everything still has come back completely normal. Everything is within normal range. There has been no bacteria or anything like that,” Thompson said, noting they still have not heard back from a genetics test and a metabolic panel test.
Wyatt has a follow-up appointment with a neurologist at the end of November.
Thompson said she has had parents of children who have had similar situations reach out to her. She said one parent from Australia has passed along Wyatt’s information to different research committees.
Thompson said community support has been amazing and has made the stressful time easier.
Thompson’s Facebook group, “Wyatt’s Rise and Shine!! Oh My!! Update Page!,” has more than 2,000 members, all of whom await updates on Wyatt’s condition. Many expressed their elation when Thompson shared the news Wyatt would be going home.
More people showed their support at Thursday night’s Rise & Shine for Wyatt fundraiser in Radcliff, an event with live music, a silent auction and other activities.
A GoFundMe page established for the Elizabethtown family exceeded its $6,000 goal to be used toward medical expenses. Numerous others also have started fundraisers for the family or offered support in some way.
“It’s amazing. I’ve referred to it as blessings falling from the sky,” Thompson said. “Everyone just jumped in. It’s been amazing.”
