In addition of ongoing construction to widen Interstate 65 to six lanes through Hardin County, motorists can expect complications south of the area next month because of a major resurfacing project.

Orange construction barrels have been setup along the shoulders in Barren, Edmonson and Warren counties. The Transportation Cabinet’s District 3 office said resurfacing begins Sept. 4, immediately after the Labor Day holiday.

The project will take place overnight with work scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The entire interstate will be resurfaced in both directions between mile marker 35 and mile marker 44, which is near the Cumberland Parkway entrance.

The interstate will be down to one lane during overnight hours. A traffic queue is likely to form well in advance of the lane merging for the closures. Law enforcement will be onsite during the night-time lane closures for the duration of the project.

The work is expected to last until late November, depending on weather, the highway office reported.
