West Point resident Cynthia Rankins won big Tuesday after purchasing a Kentucky Lottery Fast Play ticket from Patel Valero in West Point. According to a news release from the Kentucky Lottery, Rankins won $50,973 from the ticket.
“My horoscope did say I was going to come into a large amount of money in 2020,” Rankins told lottery officials.
Rankins matched the winning number on her ticket, winning 20 percent of the $254,867 Fast Play jackpot. The percentage of the jackpot won in the Fast Play game is based on the price point of the ticket, with $1 tickets winning 10 percent, $2 tickets winning 20 percent, $5 tickets winning 50 percent and $10 tickets winning 100 percent.
A new game series from the Kentucky Lottery, Fast Play allows players to immediately know if they’ve won a prize, as opposed to waiting for a drawing to occur.
According to the release, Rankins walked out to her car after purchasing her ticket and was stunned to see she had won.
“I really didn’t believe what I thought I was seeing,” she said. “I said to my boyfriend, ‘Really!? I’m going to have to go back in and have this checked.’”
Rankins is the latest Kentuckian to win the Fast Play jackpot, according to the release. Hers is the largest Kentucky Lottery win in Hardin County since Elizabethtown woman Chinyere Anako won $225,000 through a Cash Ball game in November. Anako purchased her winning ticket at a Five Star location in Elizabethtown, according to the Kentucky Lottery website.
Rankins told officials the first thing she did after winning the prize was call her son.
“I told him, to help me find a car, that I had just won the lottery,” she said.
