CREDIT GOES TO ABOUND. Abound Credit Union has made a corporate commitment to financial literacy. School children and adults in this region are benefiting and the credit union industry is taking note of the accomplishments.

The credit union recently received both the Alphonse Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award and the Alphonse Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award.

The organization’s good work does not end there. It also was presented the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for its major investments in military and community health along with higher education.

Sponsored by the Kentucky Credit Union League and Credit Union National Association, the three awards recognize Abound’s commitment to serving its members and the broader community.

Headquartered in Radcliff, Abound is Kentucky’s largest credit union with 18 locations in communities where it obviously strives to be a good neighbor.

A CULTURAL SUCCESS. Whether it was the fashion show, the 9/11 remembrance program, music, dancing, entertainment or the food trucks’ Taste of the World, the second Radcliff Cultural Fest represented well the message of Kentucky’s most diverse community: We are all better together.

After a year off because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival returned with gusto and repeated the sense of fun and excitement it introduced in the fall of 2019. Thanks go to all the individuals involved and the organizational energy this group continually musters.

Augmented by a community parade and the Optimist Club pancake breakfast, this celebration was well worth the time and thousands came out to enjoy it.

We’re already looking forward to the next celebration.

TOP CHEFS. Let’s also congratulate the LaRue County Junior Chef team for its semifinal finish in the 2021 Kentucky Proud Junior Chef program during this year’s Kentucky State Fair.

It was a repeat performance for two of the 2019 runner-up Junior Chef Team members — Lorelai Sherrard and Victoria “Tori” Perry — who were joined this time by Billee Peace. Sheila Skaggs coaches the team to success.

While coming up short of its championship goal, the Junior Chef program provides confidence in important life skills. Participating students learned to cook using local ingredients to prepare healthy meals. For its efforts, the team also earned a $4,000 scholarship to Sullivan University, which features one of the region’s premier culinary arts programs.

All in all, it’s an excellent program offered by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and an excellent performance by these three local students.
