E’town raises bar on care of animals

I am pleased the Elizabethtown City Council is considering adopting an ordinance that would stop the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores and public spaces.

It wasn’t long ago that E’town had pet stores that sold puppies and kittens. I remember the sad and sick animals. I witnessed a box truck full of puppies unloading “inventory” at one of them. I know those puppies came from a puppy mill, no reputable breeder would ever do that.

The other store smelled and I believe animals lived in filth. Heartbreaking doesn’t begin to describe it. This ordinance would keep things like that from happening again.

We would be wise to take action before another shop comes to our town. There is absolutely no reason a pet store needs to sell dogs or cats to be successful. Pet Supplies Plus and Feeders Supply appear to do great business while partnering with our local shelter and rescues, all of which are full of animals needing good homes. As a proud owner of rescue pets,

I personally think we should be encouraging people to adopt rescue pets. We also need to encourage owners to spay and neuter their pets if we’re going to do something about pet overpopulation in our community.

Even then, it’s nice to see that local, responsible breeders won’t be impacted by the ordinance. No responsible breeder is going to sell their puppies on the side of the road or in a parking lot. For many of these breeders, the animals are like family, and they want to make sure they are going to good homes. This ordinance would give animal control the tools they need to stop bad breeders, especially those that are coming in from out of town to try and make a quick buck.

For too long, Kentucky has been an embarrassment when it comes to addressing animal cruelty and pet overpopulation. This is a chance for E’town to raise the bar and change that. Let’s not waste our chance.

Strong-arm tactics aim to silence you

You go to your local school board to protest to elected board members about their policies in educating your children. You speak out loudly and let it be known that Critical Race Theory and other race baiting Marxist propaganda have no place in the schools your tax dollars fund.

Within a few days you get a knock on the door from a federal agent accusing you of committing a crime. So, are you in the old Soviet Union, Communist China, Cuba or Venezuela? No, welcome to President Joe Biden’s America.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has issued marching orders to the Justice Department and FBI to crack down on these protests under the cover of claiming that school board members have been threatened or harassed. I guess in AG Garland’s eyes local and state police just aren’t as good as his own shock troops in enforcing state laws.

Isn’t it interesting how regular working people concerned with their children’s education are now being targeted as “domestic terrorists” while the same DOJ and FBI under AG Garland turn a blind eye to the activities of leftist groups like Black Lives Matters and ANTIFA? But I guess little things like looting, arson, attacking police and shutting down city streets aren’t nearly as serious as shouting at a school board meeting.

I also would question whether AG Garland might have some other motives in play here. His daughter, Rebecca, is married to Xan Tanner who is the co-founder of Panorama Education which peddles the Critical Race Theory curriculum. Can you say “conflict of interest”?

Looks like President Biden’s progressives not only want to disarm you, but silence you as well. Considering they now are acting more like true Marxists rather than how Democrats did in my younger days, I am not surprised.
